I'm merely brainstorming, at the moment, but I'm thinking that people can come here and submit writing that they're working on. Once they have, other members of the group will read said work and provide praise and constructive criticism. What do others think of this?

For the past two years much of my work has been centered around the universe of Alien and it's predecessors. I loved Prometheus, not only for its fresh concepts, but for its willingness to take risks and expand upon a VERY tired franchise base. The artwork by Carlos and all others involved was so inspiring to me. I just hope the very vocal minority that didn't like this film, does not have a hand in influencing another dumbed down Xeno film. I'm absolutely "all for" more horror, but we need much more than Gigers monster to keep this franchise alive and well. Rid and crew did an amazing job, and I have the greatest respect for the chance they took vs. the simple minded fanboys that can't accept anything other than the established norm. I've done hundreds of storyboards, concept portraits, ect. I'll upload some of them for you guys. I have a spin-off screenplay / story WIP that these are based on. There is lottsss of stuff, so I'll upload periodically if anyones interested in seeing some more. Hope you guys like them.

Thank you

PS.
The Art of Publishing

Arguably the hardest thing to do in the writing world. : ) I figured I'd make a thread for this, so we can keep all the publishing talk separate from the writer's workshop.

One thing I learned through trying to get my story published that you have to try and attract an agent, who supposedly helps you get published by acting as a mediator between you and the All-Mighty Publishing House. Short of finding one on the street and tackling them to the ground, the only way you can do this is by writing them a query letter. Finding websites hosted by or for agents isn't terribly difficult, but finding an agent who will actually consider reading what you have to show them is. Most publishers have an agenda: They're looking for you to offer something to them that they can take and show to the PH, not to mention, many agents specialize in a specific literary field. Some deal only in non-fiction. Others like Erotica or Paranormal Romance. The idea is you want to learn exactly which category you piece of writing fits into and then go to the agents who claim to endorse that sub-genre.

Once you've found your agent, they'll have a list of prerequisites. This can include but isn't limited to a query letter, synopsis, sample, and/or manuscript, and always in that order. In a nutshell, a query letter is you giving the sales agents a sales pitch, telling them about yourself, your pedigree and list of accolades; it's your chance to make them feel like they've struck gold because you've come to them with THE BEST STORY ON EARTH. Sound impossible? A query letter is as far as most people get. Agents receive thousands of queries a month, and they only pick the ones they think will sell. In other words, it's completely arbitrary. : ) The rejection rate is about 99.99%, perhaps lower if you're willing to "sell-out" (write shitty stuff that sells and compromise your artistic vision), so be prepared to fail, right off the bat, those of you with higher standards. It doesn't help that there's nothing requiring an agent to explain why he/she rejected you. Rejection letters, if they are even sent, usually range from completely vague to "fuck off."

That's one method. Another is to send your manuscript directly to a publishing house. I wouldn't recommend doing this simply because the response time is going to be about 4-6 weeks, and that's assuming they even send a rejection letter. A lot of places are going green, however, and might reject your manuscript purely on the basis that it's made out of a dead tree. Ironic, but I guess that's the way the wind is blowing.

There's also self-publishing. This will net you a smaller audience, but it's better than no audience, and if you do it online, there's always the chance that it goes viral and you get noticed by someone big. A lot of websites, including Amazon, have tailor-made areas that focus exclusively of this side of publishing. Many have, provided you're willing to grease some palms, artists and graphic designs who will lend their services for you on your quest to publish your book.

Whatever you do, however, it's a very good idea to have a finished manuscript that you consider ready-to-publish; many places will be open to reading a manuscript, whereas they'll be a lot less receptive towards something that's "in the works."

In the end, getting published is like winning the lottery. Most people don't. Those that hit it big are few and far between, and most people who get published barely break even. It's a very competitive environment, one that caters to the largest fan base with the lowest possible standards. Works that are considered great often achieve that status after the author is long dead.

That's my two cents.

Synopsis:
Year 2231: Manifest, a thriving Space State in the Earth's orbit, the charming public figure Juliana Emerson, 28 years-old, works out of the mass media conglomerate Quote UnQuote, as a public relations manager and advertisement model. Upon hire, she also kills people with hyper-lethal effectiveness, taking those jobs like any other. That makes it a bit more than a typical work day for most. Juliana's life has been a simple one under convoluted circumstances; as her image spread, so did her fame-- a recognizable face amongst the public. Who in their right mind would suspect her to be a cold blooded killer? Unfortunately for her, there are a few with justifiable suspicions, and a few others that are too well informed to bother with revealing her, too high above in the clouds to look down and care. But that's just business-- at least until it booms.

About the series:
Masked by bubbly cartoon expression, suggestion of flamboyant movement, and a seemingly shallow purpose, is a darkly comedic sci-fi series called Fatale. You may be asking yourself "well exactly what the fuck is it," and that's a good question, because while it appears to be a dead give away, much like the characters portrayed, there is a much harder edge to it.

Part of its claim to being a dark comedy comes through in something as basic as the very style it's portrayed in, which also serves as a visual metaphor for the story's themes of deception. Deceived by by what your eyes are showing you, and what your gut is telling you, it's a bit of a shock when somebody is reduced to a mess on the wall while you still think you were viewing something Disney-approved. Admittedly (yet fittingly) gratuitous violence, unfiltered language, raw sexuality, and bare emotion are what the story is made up on.

Already read by many, and greatly acclaimed for it's style, tragically lovable characters, winding storyline, and original attitude, Fatale: A Darkly Comedic Sci-Fi Series is a story of deception, over-indulgence, distorted identity, and frustrations amongst the wicked.

Format:
Some-what thematically following the television format, the story unravells over thirteen episodes of a season which are to be continued. I've already written the first treatments of Season 1 and released them elsewhere; as I'm writing the revised versions, I figured now would be the perfect time to release them here, bringing you all along for the process.

Ultimately, the series is to be adapted to comic form, but each episode is written in a way meant to hold the average reader's interest far more than that of a standard script, flowing freely without the constraints of format.

Any questions I would be glad to answer as best as possible, any comments would be appreciated!
First episode (text format) coming to Prometheus Forum shortly!
