There's a lot of talk on these boards about realism and fantasy with regards to Prometheus and i thought it'd be cool if we thought less about the main direction of the story and more about the small details that people are going to want explained/explored in the sequel(s). Here are a few questions, feel free to answer, add questions of your own and use your imaginations.

Ridley Scott has said that Shaw has a decision to make with regards to whether or not she fixes David ('he's dangerous if she does') but surely she has no choice in the matter? At the end of Prometheus Shaw and David are off to Paradise but to get there, David needs to operate the engineers ship and, i presume, to fuse with the chair to fly it. Obviously from an acting perspective as well as plot direction, Fassbender isn't just going to play a head for the whole the movie, but my question is, when is Shaw going to have to fix him?

Is Shaw going to have to be put in stasis for the flight to Paradise? Again, would you trust David to watch over you when you've been mentally molested by him before?

In what may seem a trivial detail, one of the things i thought was cool about the Mass Effect series was that different species have different nutritional requirements and what's a standard food and drink for one species is potentially lethal for another. The engineers have the same DNA as us but that doesn't mean their requirements are the same. Will Shaw find plentful food in Paradise that is edible, or is she going to have to nibble on David's flesh (ok i'm joking on this one, but a few ideas would be cool) . Obviously water will be available on Paradise, that's more or less assured. To be honest, I think this would be a really cool little touch to explore this angle.

How are the writers going to introduce the Yutani angle? A few posters have said that they'd like to see a movie with just Shaw and David but realistically I don't think that's going to happen. Scott has hinted that he will explore the whole merger thing, so I think it's safe to assume we're going to have more humans characters (sorry John).

Any other little touches/side issues you want to see?

What Ridley needs to do to make the sequel truly great

I liked Prometheus, but it was flawed and I feel like it was short of greatness. Its potential was massive. I think if he did the following it could be a spectacular sequel:

1. Involve HR Giger more. Let him go crazy and design the creatures from the ground up. The creatures in Prometheus were uninspired, they felt like exactly what the creators of the first Alien were trying to avoid: sci-fi cliche. Not nearly as nightmare inducing as Giger's creations.

2. Get a new writer. Lindelof set a good precedent for mystery and intrigue and the overall plot idea was fine, but the script was not great. Some really cheesy/forced dialog, strange pacing, continuity issues, etc. Find someone with pedigree, someone with a track record of writing great movies with restraint and realism. Get an Oscar-winner with the bigger budget the sequel is almost certain to have after this makes a huge profit.

3. Get a new composer. The music wasn't bad, it just wasn't great for the application. Dread and mystery is hard to pull off in a score. Goldsmith is long gone, but a composer like Goldenthal would be spectacuar.

4. Find a different editor. This guy has been with Ridley forever, but I'm not sure he's right for this franchise. Alien was masterful in its pacing. Prometheus was not. Some things that should have happened quicker took too long, and some things (like the lead in to some major "scary" moments) happened way too quickly. I'm not saying Scalia is a bad editor, he has some decent works, but he's not right for this film.

5. Don't be afraid to introduce the xenomorphs we know and love and finally make the 180 connection back to Alien. Those creatures still terrify and intrigue (more than the new creatures too) despite forgettable AvP movies.

I think from the areas of art direction (with the exception of the creatures), cinematography, overall story, acting, it was superb. In other words, Ridley did a great job - he just needs to surround himself with a different crew next time.

I was watching Prometheus yesterday and something occurred to me: As the lifeboat is ejected from the Prometheus prior to it flying straight into the Juggernaut, the boat soars towards the surface of LV-223 and crashes into a rock before skidding to a halt. After the impact, it lies badly damaged, and the antennae projecting from its roof is blinking. Is this some kind of distress signal? Has it been too badly damaged to function, or, will the necessity of a sequel allow it to magically work anyways? I can't recall it being mentioned that the lifeboat had such capabilities, but given that it took two years for the Prometheus to reach LV-223 and the lifeboat had about the same amount of time's worth of food and air, it would make sense. Granted, the signal would have to travel faster than light, because even at a distance of two light years, the signal would have to reach Earth in double that time in order for Weyland Corps. to be able to respond in time to save whoever was on the lifeboat.

Shaw says, "If you are receiving this transmission, make no attempt to come to its point of origin." Doubtless she will be ignored and men will come, either searching for wreckage or survivors. Will they encounter the deacon, or the alien ships? More importantly, will they bring their own David with them, free of Weyland's programming? What would his ambitions be, or are droids as soulless as Weylend predicted? Perhaps a double, alter-ego performance from Michael Fassbender? Or, if Weyland Corps doesn't come, who would? Yutani? What would their goals be and who would lead the party? Would they bring guns? : )

But it goes against what noomi said about prometheus 2, and makes me wonder if there was actually a plan for a trilogy all along or if lindeloff has messed things up with the whole unanswered questions thing. Maybe you can't answer his questions, anyway here are two articles that i have read.

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/BatFreak/news/?a=76523

http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3225329/prometheus-2-in-space-no-one-can-hear-ridley-scott-and-fox-scream-at-damon-lindelof/

http://latino-review.com/2013/03/27/damon-lindelof-convinces-fox-prometheus-trilogy-then-leaves/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=damon-lindelof-convinces-fox-prometheus-trilogy-then-leaves

Basically the articles say Fox and Ridley are up shit creek and it's thanks to lindeloff who had the idea of spreading spaiths story out into a trilogy and now he's left the project. Probably due to the negative criticism and the fact that he can't man up and take it all in his stride who knows?

"I can tell you that Xenomorphs haven't gone away," he hinted about the sequel, adding that we may see new versions of the Xenomorph. "What would happen if a facehugger got its tentacles on god, or on David?"

A Xenomorph that's part-god would definitely be an interesting thing to see.
Within the recent video game, Aliens: Colonial Marines, there is a pretty big Prometheus Easter Egg.
Having played the game myself I thought it was just the inclusion of the Space Jockey in his chair aboard the Derelict.
But I missed something.
Apparently if you shoot the head/helmet of the Jockey/Engineer a holographic recreation of a battle between two ships is played out in loop.
One ship is the horseshoe-shaped Derelict and the other a larger circular ship.
Circling each other, they exchange fire before the Derelict plummets to the ground.

Before either the game or Prometheus were released the development team met with Ridley to consult him about the game and the Prometheus script so it's a fair assumption that this Easter Egg is official.

So, the first insight into what we might see in Paradise—a division between the Engineers.

See for yourself:
http://youtu.be/aAj3ziUiOwA

According to these sources http://canaryislandsnews.net/?p=1498, http://www.laopinion.es/cultura/2013/03/18/ridley-scott-rodara-gran-pelicula-parajes-naturales-canarias/465090.html, Ridley Scott has traveled to the island of Gran Canaria (Spain) with production designer Arthur Max for locations. I will take this with a huge grain of salt however given how many projects Ridley has up his sleeve but this is some news nonetheless of his recent doings that may just may pertain to Paradise since it has reportedly started production but ultimately I think this has to do with his upcoming biblical epic 'Exodus'. I've used Google translate with the latter source, it's not a perfect translation of course but I'll post some of the quotes anyway - "We have been seeing many locations for a great movie, we found several that we liked a lot, and that means that I will return. Basically we seek natural landscapes, wild nature, but at this stage we will have to build many great things, that's what I do."

"I don't want to talk about the film because it is confidential," he reiterated several times yesterday, "It takes place in natural settings, with important scenarios and funds with big mountains, big rocks, deserts, etc. Correspondingly the film Lawrence of Arabia that had many scenarios, impressive backgrounds, in the same style."

"If I say something else, you will know what film it is and the truth is there is a big competition that is not to say that. It is written so I can afford a nutshell, the casting is over but I cannot say who will be in the movie, and the fact that we are on location means that we are moving a lot, because when you do a film, you cannot get there on a Monday and say come on let's roll."

Again take this with a huge grain of salt, the only certainty I can glean from all this is that Sir Ridley is one busy man.

http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/exclusive-noomi-rapace-says-prometheus-sequel-script-being-worked-on-now-20130226
[cheers]

One of the most bickered about movies of last year was Ridley Scott's "Alien" pseudo-prequel "Prometheus," a gaudy, lumbering hulk of a movie with more moving parts than your father's Chevy, it was a film that posed just as many questions as it answered and whose elliptical nature allured as many moviegoers as it repelled. Well, it was still something of a hit, and it appears work is moving ahead on a sequel, at least according to "Prometheus" leading lady Noomi Rapace.

Catching up the actress as she did press rounds for "Dead Man Down," when we asked where she was in the "Prometheus 2" process, she said, "They're working on the script. I met Ridley in London a couple of weeks ago. I would love to work with him again and I know that he would like to do another one. It's just like we need to find the right story. I hope we will."

We then asked about her thoughts on the reaction to the film – the endless speculation, theories, and essays that bloomed in the wake of "Prometheus." She began by describing her experience on the first film. "I love working with Ridley. It was pure joy," she said. "It was really hard work sometimes. My body was a complete mess – I had bruises and cuts and emotionally I was a bit slammed. But being in his world and his universe was such an amazing experience."

She then implied that the speculative angles are things she would like to see influence the sequel. "And it's interesting because people, most people I've talked to who see the movie, see things that are quite different. Some people who see the movie many times and discover new things. There are all these religious aspects and there are very interesting conversations," Rapace explained. "And for me, if we do a second one, there are a lot of things to explore in there and to continue." She added: " I would love to do it."

But, we had to ask, since original screenwriter Damon Lindelof (who took the original script, a more straightforward prequel, into all those loopy directions) isn't coming back (he's got an HBO series in the works and that super-mysterious Disney thing "Tomorrowland"), have they hired a writer? "You would have to ask someone at the studio about who the writer is." We prodded -- was she sure she can't squeal? "No!" she chirped back.

More from our conversation with Noomi Rapace soon. "Dead Man Down" opens on March 8th.
