So what are you guys favorite bands and albums?

Mine? I'm an audiophile; I listen to just about everything. I love jazz, metal, rock, and classical; rap and country suck, as far as I'm concerned. I'm also a big fan of video game music, from Nintendo to the Amiga. My favorite jazz album is "Light as a Feather" by Return to Forever. My favorite classical piece is probably Beethoven's 9th, especially the 4th movement with the chorus. I love Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and a million other bands just like them. Powerslave is my favorite album by Maiden; by Priest, probably Stained Class (I'm a big fan of 70s Priest, though I love all their work). I love King Diamond's Abigail; Give Me Your Soul, Please...; The Spider's Lullaby; and Them; as well as his Mercyful Fate work. The list goes on and on... : )

I'm a bit of a audiophile too. As I get older, I spend less time trying to find good up and coming indie bands that hardly anyone else likes but now find myself listening to a lot of pop and r&b radio tunes.

But yeah, back in my early teens it was Guns N Roses, Metallica, Slayer.

Later in life I moved on to indie stuff like Flaming Lips, Pavement, Shins, Fiery Furnaces, Mercury Rev, Magnetic Fields, Yo La Tango, Decemberists, Arcade Fire etc...

Now it's all about Gaga, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Kanye  YEAH
I wanna go home and party.
  • If I was to start listing what I'm into, it would go over everyone's head - certainly not stuff any of you probably have heard. I'm a minority here  @-)

Went through a Death/Cynic/Atheist phase (those are all bands). Always enjoyed their respective albums Individual Thought Pattens, Focus and Unquestionable Presence. Another good one is the album Nemesis by Obliveon:

Also, Coroner's Mental Vortex is fucking awesome from start to finish:

Let's see... My favorite Deep Purple album is Machine Head; Black Sabbath, Paranoid; Metallica, Ride the Lightning; Megadeth, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?; Pat Benatar, Crimes of Passion; and Enya, A Day Without Rain. : P

So many others, but those are some more than I can think of.

I am not a fan of an specific kind of music or band. Every artist and genre has inspirational and "suck" times.

So far I would consider Colors by Between The Buried and Me to be the best album I've ever heard.

I'm a music fanatic, so much so that I dedicate time to my own music blog.

My latest find is a producer named Breakbot. His music pulls from the French house style that Daft Punk brought to popularity. Definitely music made for dancing.

  • The first band I truly loved was Def Leppard. There music has always been a big part of my life. My other favourite band would be Tool. I'm really into the progressive metal genre and I love the creativity that gets put into their albums.

My favourite albums would probably be Paranoid by Black Sabbath, ( ) by Sigur Ros, and Lateralus by Tool. I also really love all of Pink Floyd's 70's albums.

Slint - Spiderland -- post/math rock cult classic

Mahavishunu Orchestra - any album -- Jazz fusion Gods

Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert -- improv. Jazz solo piano. A live album that captures genius

    Aphex Twin -
Selected Ambient Works Volume II -- moving and unsettling
Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

See my avatar...I'm no death metal fan but I can't get enough Opeth right now, their music is incredible. To me it first and foremost is progressive rock that happens to be rooted in Swedish death/black metal. I'm listening to "Ghost Reveries" right now, really good album.

I'm also listening to a lot of Jethro Tull these days. "A Passion Play" and "Songs from the Wood" are great.

Like most here, I have a massive variation in "taste".

Currently, I'm massively into Devin Townsend, but go through phases (e.g Tool, Pink Floyd, Morbid Angel, Queen, QOTSA, Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, Holst, Dire Straits, Brian Eno, Jarre, Tangerine Dream).

    Fairly diverse.

Tool, a Perfect Circle..... Anything Maynard...

    Mastodon
    Iron Maiden
    Dream Theater
    Megadeth
    Dethklok
    Deftones
    Fair to midland
    NIN
    Slayer
    ....just to name a few.

I really love metal, but I have a sweet spot for real melodic rock like dream theater and etc, there's nothing like listening to real musicians who play the best music instead of most bands who play a couple chords the entire song/album and sellout
